Beat it: Michael Jackson’s stuff sells for record prices.
Even a year after his death, the King of Pop is still making money. June 25 marked the one-year anniversary of the pop star’s death, which was especially eerie when you remember his words at the press conference announcing his last tour: “This is it. This is the final curtain call… I love you.”
At an auction at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Michael Jackson’s iconic sequined glove used in the 1984 Victory Tour sold for a mind-numbing $190,000. Yes, the comma is in the right place. “Let’s just say I wasn’t walking out of here without that glove,” the buyer, Wanda Kelley, told the Associated Press.
Other items also went for staggering sums:
- That custom military-esque jacket M.J. wore in his interview with Barbara Walters. After being listed somewhere in the $6,000 to $8,000 range, it was purchased for $120,000.
- A pair of loafers that Jackson used while moonwalking went for $90,000.
- One of his white fedoras went for $56,250.
- An autograph—one of the last ones he ever gave—went for $21,000.
We sent a Good Men Project intern to bid on some of our favorite M.J. items, but, in typical intern fashion, he got drunk on the flight over and left the company credit card on the airplane. Which reminds us… maybe we should call and report it missing before someone spends $90,000 on a pair of loafers.
