Moderation Note: Discussion of Trayvon Martin brings all the racist fuckwits out of the ether. Do not feed the trolls. Just ignore any racist comments and I’ll be by in a bit to delete them; if you don’t ignore them I’ll feel obligated to leave them up so everyone can know what you’re responding to. Also, TW for discussion of George Zimmerman being a rapist fuckwit.
Fuck that racist, murdering cockfaced piece of motherfucking shit passing itself off as a human being.
…Sorry, I’ll try to be a bit more polite for the rest of this article, but I just had to get that out. Fuck George Zimmerman, that murderering asshole. I hope he realizes exactly what he’s done and it eats him up for the rest of his life. (Okay, I’ll stop being angry now.)
Apparently, Sean Hannity interviewed Zimmerman! I never expected Hannity to be the least awful person on the Hannity show.
It’s the pile of disingenuous shite one would expect, of course. Apparently it was God’s plan that Trayvon would die! I don’t believe in God, but it’s my opinion that any deity whose plans hinge on the coldblooded murder of a black boy carrying Skittles and ice tea is not worthy of worship. Zimmerman also disapproves of the way people have rushed to judgment. “Why are people assuming I murdered a black boy because of my racist sexism,” he says, “just because I am a racist and sexist who murdered a black boy! Injustice!”
We also get to learn exciting details about the crime. Trayvon was doing suspicious things like standing in the rain and not making an effort to get out of it, and being in someone’s yard instead of on the sidewalk. I assume my white, passes-for-female ass will be arrested for walking in the rain ANY DAY NOW. I mean, the other option would be that he’s a racist and a sexist, and that is obviously untrue. He is against all people standing in the rain in people’s yards! Know, all you people, that standing in the rain in people’s yards is a death penalty crime now!
Furthermore, when Zimmerman approached him, Trayvon just started attacking him! Out of nowhere! You know how those black men do. They’re just wild beasts running about attacking innocent Hispanic dudes. This literally happens all the time. Zimmerman wouldn’t lie to you!
Finally, we’ve discovered that Zimmerman is, in addition to his many fine sterling qualities, a rapist. (Or, at least, he didn’t deny molesting a woman against her will from age 6 through 16.) He has said that it says something that one of the people who has accused him of being a racist also accused him of molesting her! Yes, it says you are a rapist and also a racist! Also, you totally got arrested for DV once! There is lots of evidence here that he doesn’t respect people’s consent and is prone to solving problems with violence, is my point. Zimmerman: not a very nice fellow! Also a racist!

Sometimes people try to defend Zimmerman, which is all kinds of messed up, but there’s usually one rebuttal that nobody can refute.
The 911 dispatcher said “We do not need you to follow him.” He did so anyway. Regardless of what his intentions or feelings may have been, he is guilty of manslaughter at the very least.
Was it a hate crime? Maybe. Was it racially motivated? Possibly. But what matters here is that Zimmerman followed a young boy for no legitimate reason, and that boy is now dead.
“The 911 dispatcher said “We do not need you to follow him.” He did so anyway. Regardless of what his intentions or feelings may have been, he is guilty of manslaughter at the very least.”
There are a lot of reasons to not like Zimmerman. This isn’t one of them. First, the dispatcher didn’t say “do not follow him”, the dispatcher said “we do not need you to follow him”. The police and co. do not need me to go to the store. The police do not need me to bake homeless children cookies. However, if I go to the store and bake homeless children cookies, it doesn’t count against me.
Two, even if the dispatcher did tell him not to do something (of course, the dispatcher failed in this regard), I don’t think the dispatcher had the authority to order him around.
@ Lamech: Oh, BS.
When a police dispatcher tells you, “We don’t need you to do X”, your first thought should not be “I’m going to do X!”, whether it’s bake cookies for orphans or follow a suspicious figure. You’re arguing SEMANTICS (and I’m an English major; I FIRMLY BELIEVE in arguing on the merit of semantics when the issue is a semantic issue, which is to say, the specific and literal meaning of the parsed phrases actually technically matters; this is NOT one of those cases). A representative of law enforcement told him to stand down; there is no other way of interpreting it conversationally. His offer of assistance was answered in the negative, plain and simple. Any normal, rational person with a third grade education and an appropriate sense of self would have walked away then and there. Zimmerman didn’t.
And whether the dispatcher has “authority” is neither nor there. What we SHOULD be talking about is whether Zimmerman had the “authority” to indulge in paranoia and self-importance to the point of taking an innocent life.
What idiot is this guy’s lawyer?
Shut up shut up shut up. Not only is it the tasteful thing to do, it’s almost always the best way to avoid handing your legal opposition to rope with which to hang you.
He had some lawyers.
They quit.
He was being too much of a fuckwit for them to handle.
A friend of mine put forth that this recent media endeavor is weird attempt at a self-inflicted “poison the well” strategy on Zimmerman’s part. If a judge feels like Zimmerman can’t get a fair trial due to the jury pool being familiarized with the proceedings through media exposure and thus unable to be impartial, it throws a wrench into the trial.
Honestly, it wouldn’t entirely surprise me.
OH. MY GOD.
This is considerably worse than the normal tragic racism. I really wonder whehter that’s an apologistic or prophetic ‘God’s Plan’ though. OOOOOO NOOOOOOOO.
Must be nice to get an hour of national TV time to make your case for why you murdered an unarmed kid… BEFORE your trial.
Just one of the perks of having a huge angry Confederacy backing you, I guess.
Sometimes, people reply to accusations with the phrase “I’m not even going to dignify that with comment”. You know, “Don’t feed the troll” and whatnot. Simply put, “not denying” is not the same thing as an admission of guilt.
There’s also some evidence that Zimmerman is not a racist. Some years before this incident, there was case of an Orlando Police Officer beating up a homeless black man. Zimmerman helped lead a protest against the officer. This doesn’t seem like an the action that a racist man would take.
Beyond that, it doesn’t matter if Zimmerman is a racist, sexist asshole. Being an asshole does not automatically mean you are guilty, nor does being a ‘good person’ automatically mean you are innocent.
What matters is circumstances under which Zimmerman killed Martin. This is hard, since to my knowledge, there’s no video and no eyewitness except Zimmerman. What evidence does exist doesn’t paint a picture that’s favorable to either party in the case.
1) Zimmerman was injured in the altercation. He may have even suffered a broken nose. This supports, but does not absolutely prove, Zimmerman’s claim of self defense.
2) Martin died of a gunshot wound to the back fired at “intermediate range”. This does not support Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense, but it does not completely invalidate it either.
3) Besides the fatal gunshot wound, Martin had only one other minor injury: a small cut.
Even if you don’t believe a word that Zimmerman says, all of these points are consistent with Martin physically attacking Zimmerman, then attempting to flee when Zimmerman pulled his sidearm. From what I’ve read, this seems like the most likely scenario.
Where does that leave us? Both sides are trying to create a narrative where one person is the good guy and the other person is the bad guy. So far as I can see, the truth is more complicated. Martin may have started out as an innocent kid walking down the street with a bag of skittles. But, he was the one who choose to turn a non-violent encounter into a violent one. Zimmerman might have drawn his weapon in self-defense, but he ultimately shot a fleeing person who no longer posed an imminent threat in the back. There are no heroes or villains here, only flawed human beings.
> Fuck that racist, murdering cockfaced piece of motherfucking shit passing itself off as a human being
No matter what Zimmerman did or believes, he is still a human being. Dehumanizing humans for their acts or thoughts first of all is not something I would have expected from this blog and second of all only leads to violence against those people. Example (to avoid the obvious Godwin): Prisons in the US; after all, the people incarcerated there are (most of the time) criminals and “therefore” “not humans”.
(Of course the belief that it’s ok to do to non-humans what is not ok to do to humans is nothing but speciesism.)
Dehumanizing someone is convenient for the “us” and “them” situation it creates, as it simplifies things and appeases the self, as in “I could never do something like this/hold beliefs like this.” (Ironically it proves the latter part of that sentence to be false.)
