Of course I was familiar with the name White Castle, but living in Connecticut I’d never had the opportunity to visit the home of the world famous Slider. The well-known burger chain has franchises across the United States, but none in my home state. It would take a movie and a road trip before my palate would savor its first Slider.
“Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.” Have you seen this hilarious movie? Perhaps. If not, you’re almost certainly aware of its existence. In short, it’s about two oddball college kids who make it their mission to visit White Castle in order to satiate their love of the world famous Sliders. I love this movie, and will stop to watch it whenever it’s on television. It certainly heightened my awareness of the existence of White Castle, and helps to explain why I pulled off Interstate 95 in the Bronx, New York, while returning to Connecticut from a road trip to visit family.
The White Castle logo was visible from the highway, and though I wasn’t particularly hungry, I reckoned this might be my best opportunity to satisfy my interest in eating some of those well-known Sliders. It might have been the best detour in my personal driving career.
I ordered eight Sliders, which was quite a lot considering my lack of hunger. Needless to say, I finished them all. Next time I pass this White Castle – or who knows, maybe they’ll get one in Connecticut – I’m going to be eating for free. Thanks to a promotion from CraverNation.com, I have a coupon for two free Sliders.
