How far would you go to bring light to a social issue?
Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) was force-fed under standard Guantánamo Bay procedure.
What steps would you take to bring light to a social issue? Would you swallow your pride, and push your cause to the limit? Well…
The critically acclaimed actor and Hip Hop artist, Yasiin Bey (also known as Mos Def), plead with doctors to “stop, please stop.”
The 39-year-old Bey, with his shackled wrist and feet, was featured in a 4-mintue film produced by Human Rights organization Repreive and the award-winning director Asif Kapadia. The film illustrated a painful Guantánamo Bay procedure in which doctors forced a plastic tube through his nose that went toward his stomach.
Why?
More than 40 out of the more than 100 hunger-strikers in Guantanamo Bay are being forced-fed by the US government. A leaked document showed the standard operating procedure for force-feeding the detainees.
Ramadan, a Muslim holiday observed for fasting, is fast approaching. The US government is being pressured to stop the forced feeding during this Muslim holy month. Yasiin Bey–also a Muslim –is known for his socially conscious music and his activity in social and political causes.
The video is quite disturbing. Check it out below:
