To Glee or not to Glee

My 14-year-old daughter, who I lovingly refer to as Drama Queen thinks Glee is all that and a big bag of chips. As a 46-year-old heterosexual Caucasian male, I think its lame.

Video: In The Trenches of Daddy-hood, 3 Year Old Drama Queen

Screen Shot 2012-04-20 at 12.34.52 PM

Video of a tired 3 year old who claims her little bowl is too heavy to lift. And she’s a good actress! But what stands out in this video is the patient daddy behind the camera!

Whitney’s greatest love of all

“Yeah,” I replied.  “Pretty much.” By now everyone knows Whitney Houston died last month, most likely from overdosing on prescription pills.  I began writing this post almost immediately after her death but my Muse talked me into waiting “a while” before doing so.  I looked at a calendar this afternoon and noted that its been [...]

A teenage life lesson

I need to go find a way to accomplish that.  Somehow. Yes.  That’s me in 1984.  I’m not sure where to start mocking myself.  Is it the hair?  The glasses?  How about that shitty wanna be porn ‘stache I was trying to grow?  Maybe the fact that I was 6 ft 180 pounds and a [...]

How many balls are too many?

…the more balls the better. First off, this is NOT a post about balls.  I swear.  I’m a guy and when the opportunity to make a ball joke pops up, I have to roll with it.  Ya know? So if it’s not about juevos, what is this post about?  I’m glad you asked. Wednesday was [...]

A tale of two years

It’s finally 2012 and for that I’m glad.  2011 was a shitty year for me, but I have big hopes for 2012.  Of course, a year ago I said I had big hopes for 2011 and we know how that turned out. 2011 saw my health deteriorate and lots of financial stress, [...]

The wrong side of 45

“Buttercup took the dirt nap.” Me Today I turn 46, which means I’m now officially on the countdown to 50.  I really don’t care about the number, because I believe it’s about how old you feel.  Unfortunately I have days where I feel like I’m 90 and others where I feel 17 and that I’m [...]

Screw it

“Holy crap.  No.  I’m not happy.  Don’t tell me to screw it.”               Wednesday, November 9.  4:37 PM   My 14-year-old Drama Queen stays with grandma on Wednesday nights because I do my radio show from 8:00- 9:30, then come back to my studio to knock out 5 Minute [...]

Return of the vlog

Trust me.  You’re gonna wanna watch this.   It’s my first VLOG of the year, and with good reason. I have face for radio. If you can’t stand the sight of me, just turn your head for five minutes. We discuss my daughter’s first tennis match, a quick grumble at the BCS, then onto a [...]

Drama Queen’s first visit to the Scary Farm

The Halloween Haunt experience isn’t complete until someone goes to jail for being a dickwad.                       If you’ve lived in So. Cal for any length of time, you know that October means Knott’s Berry Farm’s Halloween Haunt is in full swing.  I’ve been going to [...]

Happy Birthday Drama Queen

Hugs and shit.     It doesn’t seem like it’s been 14 years since Baby Mama dropped a 9 lb. 12 oz., 21 1/2 inch bundle of joy on the world, but it has been.  My Drama Queen was supposed to be a King.  Two ultra sounds said boy and I still remember standing in [...]

Two-Fer Tuesday

I’m just keeping it real, yo.   It’s been five days since I’ve written a post and that should clue you in to how I’ve been feeling lately.  I apologize for the lack of prose, but I’m physically ill (the toilet has been my BFF the past couple of days, I’m mentally exhausted, emotionally drained [...]

Jesus, high school, good radio and my novel

I blame the second can of Amp I slammed about 20 seconds before we cracked the mic’s on. It’s been an interesting week.  This morning I drove to get coffee before heading to work and I was contemplating how I would start this post.  When I arrived at my office, I realized some things write [...]

Chevy’s is finger lickin good

Swear to God.  True fuckin’ story.   Monday night I was in Baltimore with Drama Queen.  We were chillin’ with The Muse when she offered to take us to dinner.  I’ve been craving good Mexican food, but we couldn’t find any so we opted for Chevy’s.  Chevy’s is mediocre Mexican food.  Mediocre food is better [...]

The Brown Eyed Girl

..and a nice long hands holding walk…then find a nice quiet place to *cough* talk The Brown Eyed Girl After reading this you may say, “J.R. this sounds kind of familiar.”  It’s not.  Trust me.  Each lady is unique and special in her own right.  Every woman that I date or have any kind of [...]
