Woman on an Escalator

I took this photograph without looking. I held the camera on my left hip and clicked when I clicked. There is a lot to be said about art by chance.

Three Happy Pedestrians

The temperature was 101, and I was standing, not moving, and I was sweating, and I’m not a sweater, and people kept walking by.

Panhandler

This gentleman was panhandling on the sidewalk down at Dupont Circle Washington D.C. USA. and graciously allowed me to take his photograph.

William 2

I have happened into two gentlemen at the Washington D.C. USA Japanese American WW II memorial the last couple of times I have walked past the memorial on my way to what are usually pretty weird films at the National Gallery of Art. The memorial, perhaps ironically, is about a block or so south of the U.S. Capitol, where, I might add, albeit cynically, that politicians refer to themselves as Honorable So-and-So and Honorable Such-and-Such and so on. The gentleman who I picture here introduced himself to me as William.
William was happy to let me photograph him, and he was even happier when I showed him my favorite shot. As I stood near William, I judge that he had not bathed, I’d say, in two weeks, maybe more. I asked William if he had an email address, and he said no. He also said he had to go get some lunch.

One Dollar, Two

2-wells-fargo-criticism-may-16-2012-2

This is a mad-capped, in-the-tradition-of-modern-art depiction of a notice I received from my bank, Wells Fargo, telling me that my account had, imagine, been inexplicably compromised, but through the bank’s humble, heroic and unremunerated efforts, no one was able to pilfer from me the $4.27 I keep in my checking account, so that I might feel secure.

I took these photographs over the past couple days while sitting in a Starbuck’s café which is located on the second floor of the Harris Teeter on Old Georgetown Road, I think, in Rockville Maryland USA. I stole all the shots. I kept my camera hidden behind my laptop which was on the table before me. I put my coffee cup about an inch away from the side of my computer, and when I saw something interesting, I snuck the camera lense into the little opening which I had made and discreetly clicked. The blurs in the pictures are caused mostly by the table on which I rested the camera. There was also the issue of working with low light. If you do not or cannot keep the camera real steady for a pretty long time when photographing in low light, you get some blur. I try to use the blurs for, you know, whatever: Call it poetic effect. As for the grays versus the colors: I have no explanation, only intuition.

Arby’s Drive-Thru at 10, 10:30 No. 1

I took this photograph last night around 10, 10:30. The light, not the chance to comment on Arby’s House of Beef Cow Meat, got my attention. I am not sure why I went to gray on this one. Arby’s is up there on the west side of Rockville Pike in Rockville Maryland USA July 9 2012.
