Guestpost #35: James Trek-e Smith – Ten things I’ve learned from writing music

James is my former boss, a world-renowned producer and DJ, a good friend, and the handsomest man I have ever met. I don’t say this lightly; he is retarded handsome.  I attribute any of my sense of style, physical fitness, and game with women in large part to Trek-e.

He is also the owner of Richmond Records, and his bio is here.

  1. I’m very angry inside.
  2. Playing the guitar is really effin’ difficult.
  3. We’re all pirates stealing each others’ ideas.
  4. There are no new chords.
  5. Quantize is not something found on the Starship Enterprise.
  6. Analogue is cool.
  7. You can use it as an excuse to get out of things, and it works really well. “Oh man, I can’t make it, I’m writing music today/tonight/that day.”
  8. Black people have more groove than white people.
  9. Swearing in a song means it won’t get played on the radio.
  10. It’s my passion. I want to do nothing but write and play music all day every day.
