Ten things I've learned from doing the Master Cleanse

Note: I am not doing this cleanse now, but have in the past.

  1. You really appreciate food when you haven’t eaten food for a full week (or more).
  2. It’s crazy what comes out of your body, even after 3 or 4 days of not eating.
  3. You can get really tired of delicious, spicy lemonade after a while.
  4. Our bodies can survive on so little for so long…it’s remarkable. Not that they necessarily should…
  5. The Master Cleanse isn’t science. At all. But it is an interesting psychological and physiological experiment.
  6. Some people have tried the Master Cleanse to lose weight, and continued to smoke while cleansing. Don’t do this.
  7. Some people have tried the Master Cleanse to lose weight, and drank extra lemon juice and also drank fruit juice and ate food. Pointless.
  8. Cleansing is nice to do with friends. You can back each other up.
  9. You really don’t want to eat junk food after cleansing.
  10. Cleansing is actually sort of spiritual. To me it’s like cutting your hair, or having a good cry. It’s a great way to let go of stress or emotional bags that you are carrying around. Actually…I think I should consider cleansing again!

  1. Re: #8 I thought the whole point of a cleanse was to not be backed up.

  2. Ray says:

Sometime back, I did a three day cleanse using unfiltered apple juice. While it did do a great job, I felt the additional sugar from the apples, although made the experience more enjoyable, wasn’t all that good for me.
