There were more heroes than villains in that Aurora, Colorado movie theater where twelve were killed.
Three female survivors of the shooting were shielded by the men accompanying them.
As final acts of valor, Jon Blunk, Matt McQuinn, and Alex Teves used their bodies to shield others as a madman turned the Aurora, Colorado movie theater they sat in that day into a shooting gallery.
—The Heroes of Aurora
When Air Force veteran Mike White Sr heard weapon fire in the Aurora, Colorado movie theater, he knew it was real.
Mike sat with his son and his son’s girlfriend, waiting for The Dark Knight Rises to begin, when the shooting started. Bullets flew. Mike Sr was shot, and so was his son’s girlfriend, Farrah Soudani.
As the gunman came within two rows, Sr. covered Farrah’s body with his, waited for a bullet’s impact and whispered to her: “I know you’re in pain, but you got to be quiet. Be still. Be quiet.”
