Which team would
you cheer for?
This is a tale of two very different teams.
We’ll call the first team The Noble Efforts. Their roster is full of intelligent, progressive players who support all of your most cherished causes. They are owned by a woman of colour who is most famous for using her fortune to develop a safe way to retrieve land mines. Their mascot is a purple Thumbs Up symbol and they play in an environmentally friendly stadium with direct mass transportation access that was built with private funds. 1/4 of the tickets for each game are donated to deserving families and 75% of their merchandising profit is donated to improve their local community.
I can’t tell you the name of the second team, because it is a derogatory term for an oppressed group of people. Most of its players are currently being prosecuted for crimes ranging from assault to murder. It’s owned by a billionaire who made his fortune manufacturing land mines and whose only charitable donations are made to extreme right-wing groups with ties to white separatism. Their mascot is as racist as their name and they play in a publicly-financed stadium built on what was once vital marshland. (It is believed at least two species went extinct as a result of its construction.) Their ticket prices are the highest in the league and the stadium’s location requires you to own a car to get there. 100% of their merchandising profit goes to the owner, who immediately gives it to those right-wing groups that were already mentioned.
Okay, it seems pretty obvious who any reasonable person would chose based on these descriptions, but there’s one more thing.
The first team is the worst in the league and has never won a game.
The second team is the best and has never lost one.
This is never going to change. There will be no shocking underdog victory. The Noble Efforts will ALWAYS come up short and the [Redacted]s will always win–inevitably inciting riots in the process.
Losers or winners?
Pick your team
Losery Losers who are really the winners at life because sportsing is stupid and meaningless anyway and even if you win at those what’s that really do for humankind/earth/the universe? That’s what I thought…
From the standpoint of storytelling and idealism, I choose the losers. In real life, I’m probably a [redacted] fan, because it’s no fun being a fan of a team that always loses.\
This is fantastic!!!!
But the decision was easy for me: the Losers. Of course. Hands down.
