What’s the one
writing mistake
you can’t stop making?
There’s a certain kind of jerk that lives to criticize others for an obvious typo/mistake. The secret to dealing with them is to lie in wait, because eventually they will mess up too and you can point the finger of shame in their direction.
The fact is, everyone makes mistakes while writing–especially on the Internet, where editing and proof-reading are often sacrificed in the name of OHMYGAWDINEEDTOGETTHISWRITTENANDPOSTEDRIGHTNOW! As someone who has been doing so professionally for quite awhile, what I find fascinating is how I tend to make the same mistakes over and over again.
My big one is adding an unnecessary “-ly” to words like probable, usual and casual. It’s not something I’m conscious of. Instead, I’ll be rereading a sentence (sometimes after the “publish” button has been hit) and notice that my fingers kept typing even though they should have stopped. To make things even more confusing, it occasionally works the other way and I’ll miss adding that “-ly” when it actual needs to be there. See! I just did it!
Do you have any writing mistakes that you can’t avoid no matter how hard you try?
