World’s Greatest
Pizza
or
World’s Greatest
Masterpiece?
A black car comes to pick you up from your house and you are taken to an enormous mansion in the hills. There you are greeted by a lawyer who tells you that a distant, eccentric billionaire relative has named you in his will. Sadly, you are to get none of his fortune, but are instead given a strange choice.
In one corner is a work of art. No matter what your usual feelings are about such things, this specific work is one that touches you straight where it counts. Like all great art it fills you with wonder and excitement and offers up a fresh new appreciation of a world you now want to know more about.
In the other corner is a pizza fresh out of the oven, sitting next to a piece of paper. You are given a slice of the pizza and it is the greatest thing you have ever tasted. The combination of flavours is so perfect and overwhelming that you feel a rush of tears come to your eyes. In your whole life you have never eaten anything quite as wonderful as this.
On that piece of paper beside the pizza is the only existing recipe. Prior to this your uncle was the only person allowed to know the whole thing. The pizza you have just eaten was made by three different people, who each only know a third of the recipe and all have terrible secrets that will be revealed to the world should they decide to share what they know with the two others.
Your choice is this: You can take home one of these items. The perfect piece of art or the recipe for the perfect pizza. Once you choose, you can take your selection and do whatever you want with it. You can sell the art for however much you can get for it (likely in the hundreds of millions) or you can keep it for your own collection. You can use the recipe to start your own chain of successful pizza restaurants or you can make it at home whenever you want.
The catch is that whichever item you don’t select is to be immediately destroyed in front of you. It will be gone from the world forever and you will have been responsible for its destruction.
Knowing this, what do you choose? The world’s greatest pizza or the world’s greatest masterpiece?
