I just got some great news regarding Vivek J. Tiwary and his production company TEG! The critics have spoken, and this eagerly awaited project I first discussed with Vivek while interviewing him about his best-selling graphic novel on The Beatles first manager Brian Epstein: The Fifth Beatle, is finally a reality and by all accounts it’s a smash!
Here’s his full announcement –
“23 years ago Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill” album was released and became a permanent part of millions of hearts, including ours. SO, we’re over the moon that our “Jagged Little Pill” musical now playing at the American Repertory Theatre in Boston, is a hit!!
With rave reviews in Variety, The New York Times, and The Boston Globe and enthusiasm bursting forth from the likes of Lin Manuel-Miranda and BuzzFeed, we’re off to a flying start!
Visit JaggedLittlePill.com for info and tickets, and follow @JaggedMusical on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram for behind-the-scenes goodies.
THE NEW YORK TIMES: Has Alanis Morissette Made the Most Woke Musical Since ‘Hair’? “‘Jagged Little Pill’ is very much of the present — don’t expect a fun, nostalgic jukebox musical about the ’90s…. The stage version of “Jagged Little Pill” sets a story steeped in hot-button issues like opiate addiction and gender identity to the singer’s raw 1995 album.”
VARIETY: Regional Theater Review: ‘Jagged Little Pill’ “Always engaging, often moving and even rousing…the result is intimate songs transforming before our eyes into explosions… Not since “Rent,” “ has a musical invested so many bravura roles with so much individual life.”
THE BOSTON GLOBE: A ‘Jagged Little Pill’ for these times: “Right now, in 2018, ‘Jagged Little Pill,’ feels urgent. It’s also, somehow, wildly entertaining. It is wickedly funny in just the right places. We’re reminded that Morissette’s songs are a treasure. On top of it all we’re reminded that a heap of social ills can be the basis of good theater. And no, there’s nothing ironic about that.”
BUZZFEED “11 Things You Oughta Know About The Alanis Morissette Musical” 5. The entire show is VERY relevant to 2018. Like, things that happened earlier this year are referenced in the show. 9. “You Oughta Know” (sung by Lauren Patten) is a fucking SHOWSTOPPER and there is always a mid-show standing ovation for it.
I’m so excited to speak with Vivek about his latest smash hit, (and perhaps get to review the show myself for it’s inevitable broadway run)
Look for an interview with Vivek J. Tiwary in an upcoming #AllThingsGeek!
