Game Designers Freddie Carlini, Matt Corrado, Merrijoy Vicente, And Artist Matt Corrado wowed me with the original Mixtape Massacre 1996 Kickstarter game! It was a tabletop board game published by Bright Light Media, where up to 6 people played as horror film archetypes and competed in a fictional 1986 killing spree!
Players roamed the streets of Tall Oaks visiting different town locations, vying for a chance to draw a card from the “Killer Scenes, Dude” deck (cards decorated like VHS tapes of old), providing an opportunity to slay victims and collected souvenirs!
In this gnarley sequel to the cult favorite board game, MIXTAPE MASSACRE: ESCAPE FROM TALL OAKS, (EFTO) now awesomely “turns the tables” and puts you in the shoes of the Tall Oaks residents!
The hunted are now the hunters!
EFTO is a meta-cooperative game where 2-6 players attempt to escape the maddening streets of Tall Oaks by fighting off the slashers, rescuing residents, and collecting essential items all in hopes of getting the hell outta town…or die trying.
Though working together at times to safeguard the town, in the end only one survivor can escape. (Like any good slasher flick.)
Players choose from 1 of 6 survivors, each with their own skill sets!
From the manufacturers :
“Explore new locations in Tall Oaks with weapons in tow while attempting your escape – but watch your back as the town’s most infamous villains will be waiting in the shadows, ready to butcher you and your pals!
Players will go through challenges rescuing victims and friends from the insanity happening across town. Along the way, search locations for supplies and weapons to assist you in making your escape. Some of these supplies will also come in handy for completing tasks to safeguard the town.
Fan favorite Killer Scenes and Bonus Tracks are back, along with supply cards and other new mechanics. Even better, if you’re an owner of the original Mixtape Massacre, combine both games by linking up the boards, increasing your town map, and turning your next game night into a Slashers vs. Survivors Party!
Not to stray too far from the original, we’ve kept the game retro, fun, full of jokes and horror tropes, and most importantly – approachable for gamers and non-gamers alike.
Welcome back to Tall Oaks. Now get out while you can!
Mixtape Massacre: Escape from Tall Oaks hits Kickstarter Early 2019.”
Sounds like a blast! I particularly enjoyed the “Bonus Tracks” cards (decorated like your favorite dusty mixtape) and Brawls, where players battled it out and eliminated one another from the game from the original Mixtape Massacre and appreciate their inclusion in the sequel! Plus the option to link both boards and play “Slashers vs. Survivors” is an ingenious twist!!!
I hope to secure an interview with the creators and an editorial review copy to unbox and review MIXTAPE MASSACRE: ESCAPE FROM TALL OAKS, (EFTO) for you soon!
