If you took the test above and you got 6/6 (answer key is at the bottom) then you are a superfan of the classic 1984 Ghostbusters film! You are celebrating National Ghostbuster Day on June 8th and PLAYMOBIL is who you’re gonna call for original Ghostbusters Playsets like the one I got to review, the fifth Ghostbuster, ECTO-1!
The original Ecto-1 was a super customized, 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor ambulance limo that was transformed by Universal Studios into The Ghostbusters ECTO-1. She’s arguably one of the most recognizable and iconic vehicles in movie history! Shes rendered in loving detail by PLAYMOBIL one of six new themed Playsets in the PLAYMOBIL GHOSTBUSTERS line. The company’s reputation for attention to detail and accessories is well known.
They’ve outdone themselves here!
This is a super fun Playmobil Playset! ECTO-1 has flashing roof lights (blue and red) and siren sounds! Each effect is controlled by its own switch on the top of the car. You can turn them on simultaneously or by themselves. The lights stay on until turned off but the iconic siren sound goes through one cycle and then you have to turn it back on. It takes 3 AAA batteries which are not included.
It has 79 pieces and my daughter easily pieced it all together quickly with easy to read instructions that were a breeze. Ecto-1 has a front windshield and windshields around the back. The car doors do not open and there are no actual windows above the doors. You can open the back hatch. To put figures and accessories in, the roof comes off easily. It took a little over an hour to assemble and contains some stickers. You get two proton packs and wands, a ghost trap, 4 slime splatters (which really do stick to the side of the car) and a PKE meter for measuring psychokinetic energy.
I liked the touch having Janine as a female Ghostbuster. Other characters are available with the other sets in the line. This ECTO-1 play set contains Winston Zeddmore and Janine Melnitz in original Ghostbuster uniforms. The figures are nicely done and can turn their heads, bend to sit and stand on their own.
The other characters are available in the various other kits that have been released by Playmobil. Ghostbusters is Playmobil’s first licensed product Playsets. Playmobil faithfully produces a nicely rendered Ghostbusters Ecto-1. The best version I’ve seen even over the LEGO version.
It will fit into the PLAYMOBIL GHOSTBUSTERS Firehouse! (Which I’m definitely on the hook to get for my little Ghostbuster!) I’ll include a photo of both the car inside the firehouse once I complete the firehouse in a follow-up review.
Look for my follow-up review of the Firehouse coming soon!
