I was contacted recently by SUMO, a long time maker of beanbag chairs and soft couch options and given an editorial tester of thier new Sumo Air Lounger in exchange for a fair review.
That I’m writing this article while reclining on my new Sumo Air Lounger on my deck should tell you all you need to know. With only a few minor caveats, the Sumo Air is a seriously comfortable, practical, easily inflated and transportable seating option for the beach or any outdoor events!
The SumoAir is billed as an inflatable lounge chair that can be set up in just seconds by simply waving it thorough the air. In theory that’s correct. You see in the 360 degree video (best viewed on a moble device) the woman on the windy beach does indeed wave it throuh the air folds and secures the end and volia! instant lounger!
My experience was not as simple. There is a slight learning curve on how to fill the Sumo Air efficenlty. And a muggy 90+ dedgree New Jersey Afternoon with zero wind in the backyard was clearly not ideal conditions.
However, with a little practice, and consulting the instruction card provided, I figured it out the proper technique but it took me minutes not seconds when outdoors. At home I found it easiest just to use a hair dryer.
Once inlfated however. It far excedded expectations. Frankly I half expected the thing to bust. To my pleasant surprise however I found the Sumo Air large enough for me at 6’4 & 250 pounds with a 55 in chest and shoulders to match. The specs say fully inflated it’s (L x W) 78.7 x 35.4 with a max weight capacity of over 440 lbs. plenty for a big guy like me to recline comfortably outdoors.
It’s like slipiing into a giant hot dog bun! Two people my size or three smaller adults can sit side by side as well using it more like a couch with feet on the floor. My first grade Daughter happend to have a slumber party the day the Sumo Air arrived and she and her little girlfriends loved it sitting on it about four abreast.
I wouldn’t recommend the Sumo Air for toodlers or younger as it would be all encompassing for very small children.
The Sumo Air is waterfroof and folds down to a ridiculously small and light package. it weighs 2.7lbs/1.2 kgs in its own carrying bag. It’s made of a super tough high quality 300 grade Rip-Stop Nylon so you can use it literlly anywhere. hiking, festivals, the beach or pool, but its not a flotation device so keep kids on dry land with it.
Any spils can be wiped with a damp cloth or saop & water. DONT MACHINE WASH! It has handy phone/ tablet pockets and a bottle or cup holder. Plus, a super clever attacherd bottle opener hidden in the fastener at the end of the closeure belt which is a very nice touch (opens a summer ale) and comes in a wide variety of colors.
My Sumo Air when it’s not in my kids playroom, lives in my trunk like my folding chairs who’s days are numbered once the other Sumo Airs I’ve ordered arrive. They take up zero space!
Bottom line is Sumo Air Loungers are comfy, practical, relatively esay to inflate and a breeze to pack up and store.
You should consider investing in a couple of Sumo Airs if you attend lots of outdoor events, music festivals or just hanging out on the beach llike we do. They reatil for $74.99 with a standard warranty against defects you can order direct from Sumo. Or you can order from Beaching Around for $49.95.
