Alex Yarde is stoked for Brian Michael Bendis’ appearance on tonights “Late Night with Seth Meyers” 12:35AM/11:35c on NBC.
“Our favorite things that any creator ever did that made us want to be in comics was, you know, Frank Miller on ‘Daredevil.’ That was not what that book was about before he got on that book… I think of that while I’m writing: that the boldest things are the things that I loved. And not just imitate their bold move, but then make my own bold moves. I just politely remind people [of that]. “The people who are just agitated to the point of rude… fuck them. I don’t care about that, and that noise.”
– Brian Micheal Bendis
The quote above was from a terrific interview with Rush Urbalejo at NerdBastards.Com. This quote crystalizes why Brian Michael Bendis is one of my favorite comic book writers working today. He’s fearless, talented and has no sacred cows when it comes to long established characters, prime examples being Marvels recent changes of Thor and Captain America, which I think keeps things interesting. Marvel recently announced that tonight Tuesday, January 20th, the Eisner Award winning comic book writer, will make his “Late Night” debut to discuss the upcoming PlayStation Network original series, “Powers” from Sony Pictures Television. Inspired by Bendis’ graphic novel series of the same name, “Powers” is an edgy, live action, dramatic series that follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as “Powers.” This is obviously a huge coup for Sony Playstation Network and paves the way for future collaborative efforts as well as original Marvel/Playstation content. Total speculation on my part, but if the two media giants can make this deal work, perhaps Marvel/Sony can work out a deal sharing a certain red & blue wall crawler Bendis also writes and we geeks all know and love? Fingers and toes crossed!
“Late Night with Seth Meyers” is home to A-list celebrity guests, memorable comedy and topical monologue jokes. It is hosted by Emmy Award-winning writer and one of the 2014 TIME 100, Time magazine’s 100 most influential people, Seth Meyers. Previously, Meyers served as head writer on “Saturday Night Live” and anchor on the show’s wildly popular “Weekend Update.”
From Universal Television and Broadway Video, “Late Night with Seth Meyers” is executive produced by Lorne Michaels (“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “Saturday Night Live”) and produced by Michael Shoemaker (“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” “Saturday Night Live”).
