I just want Disney to be what America sees itself as, the “good guys”. And right now? As Disney goes America goes, there is a strange symbiosis between how America sees itself and how Disney sees itself. I just want them to be as good as their ideals. I want US to be as good as our ideals. – Alex Yarde
It was an honor and privilege rapping with my good friend and neighbor & host of “Talking Metal” Mark Strigl and being invited to take part in his latest podcast endeavor- “Talking With Mark Strigl”!
We were scheduled to discuss Disney Plus hit “The Mandalorian” season 2 premiere and we touched on many other subjects that are very important to me.
I appreciate Mark using this forum and inviting me to speak frankly about politics, fandoms, and social justice we had real talk regarding these topics.
But don’t let that heavy stuff scare you off! At heart, we are just two Star Wars nerds shootin’ the shit, about our mutual love for the Star Wars Franchise in general and The Mandalorian in particular!
I strongly encourage you to check out the podcast, here’s Mark’s tweet with the link it’s also available on Apple & Spotify. –

I’ll give you a brief synopsis and highlight topics and give you the approximate times where they come up in the episode.
It’s a fantastic listen if I do say so myself! You’re welcome Geek Nation!
Mark asked me my thoughts about Lucasfilm parent company Disney and what were my concerns. You can read my article “ This Is the Way…’ Disney Plus and ICE’s Role in Harming Reproductive Health of Vulnerable Women and Girls Alex Yarde & son ask, “How can we condemn China’s treatment of Uyghurs when Latinx ICE detainees are forcibly sterilized? It sums up my view on Disney currently.
Mark spoke about his admiration of how The Mandalorian Showrunners are paying homage to the original trilogy with deep cuts for us Star Wars Original Trilogy fans (we were absolutely giddy about R5-D4 and Imperial Troop Transports) and the film craft, style, and editing of Lucas and Kasdan compared to Abrams & Johnson.
MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!
Mark and I are blown away by the reveal of Temura Morrison
wandering the deserts of Tatooine who we can only assume is Boba Fett!
What are his motivations? How did he survive and will he reclaim his armor?
We theorize about the power vacuum created by the fall of the Galactic Empire and the challenges faced by the Rebellion attempting to forge the New Republic five years after the events of Return of the Jedi and how the success and failures echo historical revolutionary movements.
We discuss my definition of “Geeks” which IMHO, are smart people who obsess about a certain thing they love. Learn all they can about that topic and want others to love it as much as they do.
I love Star Wars. I love Disney man! Everything in Disney is the little guy doing well, the little guy opposing tyranny, the underdog, the people they discounted, the people they threw away, get their shot!
We get into the 2020 election and Mark talks about his interview with former Mayor Vic De Luca. We get into my predictions for the outcome of the election, my take on allyship, and rights we take for granted which I believe are in serious jeopardy.
I wrote about my personal background and concern for my children’s future voting rights recently-
Alex Yarde opened his front door to a small miracle. One he intends to protect for his descendants.”
Mark gets real about the political spilt in the Metal community, his take on 911 (my take is encapsulated in my reflection I wrote in 2016 during Trump’s Muslim Ban, “Let’s Make America Great Again”) and we speak frankly about “political correctness” is it going too far or not far enough? While looking at the life and career of Sir Sean Connery.
I’m proud to know and count Mark Strigl as a friend and neighbor. I think if you listen to his thoughtful, profound, and professional work on both his podcasts, you will definitely agree!
It was a HELL of a podcast! With wide-ranging in-depth discussion about things we both hold dear!
Follow Mark on Instagram, Twitter, and listen to his Takilng Metal podcast where he gets to the nitty-gritty of what metalheads love!
Thanks to Mark & Emily for their hospitality and sheer badassery! I see you and love you!
