Allegiant is the next book to come to life and sadly they do a bad job of bringing it to the big screen
After the revelations that came to light at the end of Insurgent, Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) need to climb over the wall to find out what is out there beyond Chicago. It will be the first time they leave behind the only home they have both ever known. As scary as this may seem Tris, Four, her brother Caleb (Ansel Elgort), her friend Christina (Zoe Kravitz) and Peter (Miles Teller) make it over the wall and find it to be devoid of life and not what they expected.
As they continue on their journey they run into some odd looking soldiers who offer to take them to an amazing complex that is unlike anything they have ever seen. It is here that Tris meets David (Jeff Daniels) who tells her some shocking truths that are not easy to believe. As a dangerous battle begins to erupt in Chicago Tris and Four have to figure out who they can trust if humanity is to survive. Tris will be forced to make many impossible choices about courage, allegiance and sacrifice. Why have they all been taken to this complex? Why were they all separated? And what can Tris to do save her home and the people she loves?
Allegiant was pretty bad. It is not the fault of the cast, they do their best with what they are given. There are a few things to blame here. The choice to break the final book into two films hurts this one immensely. It is not only pretty dull throughout but it is also predictable. No matter how dire or hopeless things may seem it is clear that Tris and her friends will find a way to stop the bad guys plan. The soundtrack also came off as cheap and didn’t help this movie much. Sadly this is a film that falls into the same pattern as Insurgent which is not a good thing. It is overall a movie that is going to disappoint fans and because of this it probably won’t do that well this weekend.
Allegiant gets 5/10. It was not an exciting thrill ride like the first movie, but told an okay story that had a few good parts in it but not enough to make this a film that is worth seeing. With too many slow moments and others that won’t always make sense to people it just is not a movie this writer enjoyed much. If you like the books then you will want to miss this film entirely. The ending for this film makes no sense, and will leave people hanging until the final film comes out next year. Overall it is a disappointing movie that is sure to confuse and even anger some fans.
If you liked the last film then you may enjoy this one. If you are a fan of any of these actors this is a movie you may want to see. Yet if you didn’t like Insurgent then you shouldn’t see this one, best to pick something else instead. Allegiant comes out this Friday.
