The story of Rapunzel gets a dark twist in ‘What Once Was Mine’
I have really enjoyed most of the A Twisted Tale books I have read. Unbirthday told the next chapter in the Alice story and was a blast to watch unfold. Go the Distance had Meg taking on a quest so she could be with her true love. When I heard about What Once Was Mine I couldn’t wait to read it. I was able to get a digital copy of this book and here is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for What Once Was Mine here:
Desperate to save the queen and her unborn child, the Corona guards seek the all-healing sundrop flower, but mistakenly acquire the glowing moondrop flower instead. It does cure the queen, and she delivers a healthy baby girl with hair as silver and gray as the moon. But soon it becomes clear that the princess’s hair is dangerous. And for her safety, and the safety of the kingdom, Rapunzel is locked in a tower and put under the care of powerful goodwife, Mother Gothel.
For eighteen years, Rapunzel stays locked away, knowing she must protect others from her intense power. But when she is drawn out of the only home she’s ever known, she gets caught up in a quest across the kingdom with two thieves-a young woman named Gina who also happened to be raised by a goodwife, and Flynn, a rogue on the run. And Rapunzel learns that there may be more to her story, and her magical tresses, than she ever knew.
I had a hard time putting this book down. When the story took a surprise turn life for Rapunzel was never going to be the same. For many years her life wasn’t that exciting until one day she sees a thief hide something. This prompts her to do something drastic and it propels her on a thrilling adventure. While this story moves along Rapunzel discovers truths about her past and her so called mother. As this tale comes to a close Eugene gets the happy ending he so deserves.
What Once Was Mine is out now. You can order this book on Amazon, at Barnes and Noble and Indiebound.
