‘Blood and Oil’ Takes You to North Dakota

Blood and Oil 2 fixed

Witness a modern oil boom with dangers, betrayal and risks

There are a number of new shows coming to ABC this fall. But none compare to Blood and Oil. It takes viewers to modern day North Dakota where one of the biggest oil booms is happening in American history. There is a lot of money to be made in this town, but there are dangers too. There is plenty of debauchery and greed in the town folks eyes, and the prices of everything has skyrocketed. Wade Briggs (Don Johnson) owns most of the oil fields in this town and therefore is a good partner to have and a very bad man to cross. I had the chance to see the pilot, and I am impressed. There is a lot going on here and the show has many directions it can take. It is safe to say it is one of the must watch shows coming this fall to ABC.

A young couple leaves their family and town to move to North Dakota with a dream to open a laundromat. This a new land of opportunity and they know they are going to get rich quick. Billy Lefever (Chace Crawford)  and his wife Cody (Rebecca Rittenhouse) are excited for this new adventure, but on the way they get into a car accident and total their truck. What is worse is that all of their washers and dryers are ruined. It is a painful change of pace in their plans and Cody is not sure what they are going to do now. Billy loves his wife and wants to do everything he can to make their dreams come true. He also wants to be a provider and the man she deserves so they can one day start a family.

Billy and Cody find out right away this is a very tough town, and opportunity is not waiting to fall on their doorstep. Cody begins to freak out, but oddly enough finds a job in an unlikely place. Billy on the other hand is not having such luck. But a chance to make a huge amount of cash quick comes his way but this will not be an easy task. To make it happen he will have to take some risks that have little chance to pay off. What is Billy going to do to make this chance come to life? Will they still be able to open the laundromat? And will they both end up being happy in this crazy town?

The show follows this young couple mostly but also deals with the power Wade has and the screw up his young son Wick Briggs (Scott Michael Foster) is. There is plenty of drama going on but there are moments of happiness and hope too. The town is small but is overcrowded because of the oil craze going on, and yet there are some genuinely kind people. The soundtrack is wonderful and the sets are beautifully constructed. The pilot ends on an interesting note but does a splendid job of making people want to see more.

The pilot has earned 9/10. It is a different vehicle for ABC that has had a long road to finally getting on the air. There is a never a dull moment here and that gives a show like this real potential. I was unsure what I would think when I saw the pilot, but it impressed me. The action, drama and adrenaline fueled scenes are a welcome change to the recycled stuff that gets churned out every year. This is a show men should check out when it airs for the action and fight scenes alone.

If you are a fan of drama this is a show you will want to watch. For those who like action packed programs this is one you must not miss. Check it out when it premieres Sunday September 25, 2015 at 9pm.
