Londoners turned Angelenos turn in a solid second EP with We Won’t Give Up.
Remember songs? They had verses, choruses, hooks, bridges. Singers sang, guitarists rocked. Honest songs—that’s what Charming Liars brings to the party.
Originally founded by lead vocalist, Charlie Cosser, guitarist, Karnig Manoukian, and bassist, Mike Kruger, in London, Charming Liars now calls Los Angeles home. The move was a wise one: The band landed a recording contract, earned a chance to work with legendary producers John Fields and Bob Rock, and picked up a slot on the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival tour.
The band broke L.A. with a 5 day blitzkrieg through some of the city’s most famous clubs: The Viper Room, The Roxy, The Troubadour and the Whiskey A Go Go. Producer John Fields, whose credentials include work with The Goo Goo Dolls and The Rembrandts among others, liked what he saw and encouraged the band to give So Cal a spin. Singer Charlie Cosser recalls:
“He responded to some of the demos we sent from England and said he was into what we were doing and said he would meet us if we could get to LA. We went over for five days and built a relationship with him where we would send him demos and he would give us feedback. And then once we started the album he worked on three or four of the tracks with us as well. It was a great experience.”
Now that they were settled in their new hometown, the next piece of business was turning those demos into a full length album. Asking Bob Rock to produce your album is kind of like asking a unicorn, but the band decided to approach the legendary Canadian producer anyway, knowing that the worst he could say was no. Remarkably, Rock said yes, and he produced the majority of the songs on the Charming Liars forthcoming album.
So yeah, I’m looking forward to hearing that. But until then I’m keeping We Won’t Give Up in my power rotation. Welcome back, songs. I missed you.
