Jay Snook was able to ask Maisie Sellers a few questions this show
Vixen is a pretty popular character. She has starred in comics, shown up on Justice League Unlimited and recently on Legends of Tomorrow. Maisie Sellers who plays Vixen on this show was at Stan Lee’s LA Comic Con, and I was able to ask her a few questions. Here is what she told me about this show, her character and much more.
How do you like the Con so far?
Maisie Sellers: It’s amazing! Everyone has been really wonderful with great energy. So I am very happy to be here.
So what was your reaction when you heard you were going to be playing Vixen?
Maisie Sellers: I was super excited because she is such an incredible role model. I think it is a real honor to be playing her. I love her power, it is cool to see her power. Her relationship with animals and the earth and nature, which I am obsessed with. So it was a real privilege. It is a wonderful team. I had seen the show before and I was excited to join everyone. I am very happy to be there.
What is your favorite part of being on this show and playing this character?
Maisie Sellers: My favorite part I think for me is the female empowerment. There are some really strong female characters, especially this season. We have a new female character and some female baddies. So I love showing that and representing that. Especially playing a woman of color and a superhero of color. To me that’s really important, to have visibility in the comic book world. I love the fight scenes, love kicking ass. I love doing stunts and everything. Also the human aspect where we see the relationships building between the team members. So all of that combined.
So what are some of the biggest challenges in playing this character?
Maisie Sellers: One of the biggest challenges I’d say is, it is also one of her challenges which is balancing the humor with the superhero. Keeping it real and current. As well as being very bold and sort of pragmatic. Keeping the character relate-able. But I think they do a good job on the show with the scripts in that.
Who do you get along best with in the cast?
Maisie Sellers: Oh, that’s tough. I mean I love everyone for different reasons. Nick and I have a lot of fun, we spend a lot of time together. Caity and I are always laughing. We are doing a new project together called shethority which is like a female empowerment group. So we have been working on that for a bit. It is a very fun set.
Is there anything can you tell us about Legends of Tomorrow season 3?
Maisie Sellers: Well, this season for my character you see a lot of her background. You meet one of her grand daughters who is evil. You see the relationship between them as she tries to find common ground and figure out whether she can stay on the ship or if she has to go home.
Why do you think people should watch this show?
Maisie Sellers: I think people should watch this show because it’s fun and it’s playful. This is a group of misfits who are brought together and told they have to save the world. So it is quite different from the other shows. It definitely stands out in that it’s not as dark. It’s very human with lots of human relationships. But also time traveling which is awesome. So you are seeing all different time periods and meeting characters throughout history.
So where can people find you online?
Maisie Sellers: You can find me on Instagram at maisersellers and on Twitter at maisie_rs.
