Fifty Shades Freed dropped over the weekend just in time for Valentine’s Day, and it’s already atop box-office charts. It had an opening gross of $39 million domestically — enough to best Peter Rabbit and The 15:17 to Paris –while also racking up $98 million internationally. It once again stars Dakota Johnson as Anastasia and Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey, a newly married couple hoping to put their pasts behind them. But Jack Hyde (played by Eric Johnson) is still lurking in the background, threatening the duo’s life together. Fifty Shades Freed is getting atrocious reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It has an 11 percent fresh score, with Rolling Stone writing: “Two hours of cruel and unusual punishment …The zero-star rating may be too kind.” That said, the movie earned a 52 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and over the past three days, “Fifty Shades Freed” has a 68 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
