Indie band’s “GTMO” single tells tale from Guantanamo inmate’s point of view.
This is a cool little track that I stumbled across recently. It’s a little Beatles-esque by way of Thenewno2, which is to say that I dig it. Here’s what the band’s camp has to say about both the song and the video:
Shot in New York City’s Washington Square Park, one of the centers of the Occupy Wall Street movement and the former stomping grounds of luminary protest songwriters like Bob Dylan, the video exhibits a backwards vision of the American Dream.
Lyrically, the song gives a voice to the voiceless by showing the perspective of a wrongfully accused Guantanamo Bay detainee asleep at Camp X-Ray, dreaming about what it would have been like to be born in Southern California instead of Afghanistan.
