Ewan McGregor Just Made ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Critics’ Eyes pop Out

Ewan McGregor appeared on The Late Show on Monday night to promote his appearances on Trainspotting 2 and the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, in which he plays Lumiere, everyone’s favorite sentient candelabra.

It wasn’t long before the conversation turned to LeFou’s so-called “gay moment” in the film, which led McGregor to quip:

“There’s lots of gay sex in it. There’s a lot of gay sex in this cartoon. And I think if you live anywhere near Alabama, you should not go and see this film. What would Jesus think?”

“There were rumors that LeFou had gay yearnings for Gaston,” Colbert says. “It turns out he dances with a guy in a dress in one of the scenes, right? That’s the whole thing.”

“No, I think he’s a gay character,” McGregor emphasizes.

Colbert: “He is? I thought it turned out that it doesn’t actually say.”

McGregor re-emphasized: “It’s just like — he’s a gay character. It’s 2017 for f*ck’s sake!”

The audience erupted into cheers.
