‘Goosebumps’ Brings the Stories to Life

Goosebumps 3 change

All the monsters from these books are free and want to wreak havoc on the world

Goosebumps are a very popular long running book series. This writer read many of them himself and found them to be unique and very clever tales from start right down to the final pages. From 1995 to 1998 Fox ran a live action show that did a splendid job of bringing many of these stories to life. Now fans have a new opportunity to see these books come to life but not in any way that has ever been done before.

The film begins with Zach Cooper (Dylan Minette) and his mom moving to a small town where she gets a new job as a principal for the local school. Zach is not sure he will like it here but when he sees there is a pretty girl his age living next door he decides the place may not be so bad that is until he meets her dad. Her father keeps her locked away in the house and something weird is going on there. One night Zach and one of his friends break into the house and end up finding a ton of Goosebumps manuscripts. They open one and something unexpected happens, the Abominable Snowman is released. It turns out Hannah’s dad is none other than R.L. Stine himself and he wrote all of these magical books. Somehow all of the monsters get released and it is up to them to find all of them and put them back before it is too late. How did this happen? Why were they trapped inside the books? Will they put them all back in time? And what type of creatures will they run into along the way?

The books have always been fun and the show was a blast to watch every week. This film appears to follow a similar format but expands on it in a few ways. These monsters are in the modern world and not one that was created by Mr.Stine. There is more danger here than there has ever been before, but by this trailer the film will have some comedic moments. The cast is a perfect fit and this film wants to blend horror and comedy and hopefully they are successful at it. Jack Black is the star of this trailer and I hope this turns out to be a role to remember for years to come.

If you enjoyed the books as a kid you will want to see this movie. If you like Jack Black this is a film you will not want to miss. It is hard to say yet if this will be a film worth seeing but this writer thinks it will be worth seeing. Goosebumps comes to theaters October 16, 2015.
