‘Gotti’ does a splendid job bringing this story to life
I knew little about Gotti going in. I had faith in John Travolta playing him, he seemed like a good choice for this role. Although I had heard mixed things about this film, I decided to give it a shot. I was able to get a review copy and here is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for Gotti here:
This movie follows infamous crime boss John Gotti’s (John Travolta) rise to become the “Teflon Don” of the Gambino crime family in New York City. Spanning three decades, and recounted by his son John Jr. (Spencer Lofranco),this film examines his tumultuous life as he and his wife (Kelly Preston) attempt to hold the family together amid tragedy and multiple prison sentences.
I was pleasantly surprised by Gotti. This film has a rough start, yet it gets better as the tale moves along. Travolta does a wonderful job playing this role, and was clearly the perfect fit for this character. There is lots of violence and action as well as plenty of dramatic moments. What is really interesting about this movie though is how it portrays John Gotti and the way the public perceived him. Many people thought he was a great man, and that he did nothing wrong once he became boss. I doubt this film will be for everyone, but I can see some people really liking it.
