A habitat might be getting a new resident in ‘Meet the Mandrills’
Last time on Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we met a babirusa pig who the staff hoped to set up with a male. If things went well between them, maybe this would lead to the first baby piglet for the park. We also saw Zebras arrive at the park for the first time, and the staff faced a few challenges at first. Then we met a manatee who might have an infected tail, and taking the tests to be sure was a true feat. As this episode came to a close we found out the park was looking at getting at least a few babies in the near future. Now a popular habitat may be getting a new resident in ‘Meet the Mandrills’. I was able to watch a screener of this episode and this is what I thought of it.
You can read the premise for ‘Meet the Mandrills’ here:
Meet the lady mandrills of the Harambe Wildlife Reserve! They’re part of a family known to squabble. To stop the infighting, animal manager Beth and keepers Erin and Kerri decide to throw some testosterone into the mix. They introduce Linus, a hunky new monkey who puts the ‘man’ in mandrill and manages to charm the all-female squad. On the other side of the reserve, animal keeper Nicole has a soft spot for Scooter and Zawadi, a stinky hyena pair with a spotty reputation. She helps them clean up with a spa day that includes tasty treats, a back scratch and a relaxing bubble bath.
Over on Maharajah Jungle Trek, animal keeper Susan helps Sohni, an eight-year-old Sumatran tiger, face a tough challenge — undergoing a voluntary blood test. Cassanova, an Abyssinian ground hornbill and a fan-favorite resident of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, receives a new diet and feather makeover to strut his stuff again. Later, engineers must perform an overnight operation to inspect an underwater fence within the black rhino habitat.

Next we meet a tiger who staff works to find a way to get a routine blood test in a whole new way. After that we get a behind the scenes look at this park and learn how these animals are kept apart.
