‘Handy’ by Weird Al Yankovic (Video) Gives Praise to Handymen Everywhere

“Weird Al” Yankovic’s new song ‘Handy’ celebrates the handy person in your life.

“Weird Al” Yankovic has made a career of making parodies of our favorite songs since his first album in 1983. That first album was half parodies, taking jabs at stars such as Toni Basil, Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, and Queen. Since then he has put out 24 albums and over 100 songs. He’s made a living and carved his own niche in music history with his “style parodies” of everyone from Michael Jackson to Eminem and everyone in between.

His latest album is no different. Mandatory Fun was self-produced by Yankovic. This album features parodies of songs by Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke, Lorde, Imagine Dragons and this song ‘Handy’ which parodies Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.” It’s presented as a late-night infomercial with Yonkovic acting as a general contractor.

When I heard this song, my first thoughts were of my favorite “handy men,” the men in my life like my husband and father. While Iggy Azalea’s song talks about drinking alcohol, trashing hotels, and being famous, Yankovic’s song is celebrating the men (and women) who do all of those jobs that most of us can’t do on our own: fixing plumbing, electrical work, wood working, and and fixing appliances. These are the true unsung heroes in our lives. Let’s give them all a “shout out” and share “Handy” with them.
