‘Happy Death Day’ A silly, sometimes comedic horror film
Horror films usually follow the same formula. Yet sometimes a film comes out that tries something new. If done right, they can become something special. When I saw the trailer for Happy Death Day I was intrigued. I was able to see this movie early and this is my thoughts on it.
You can read the plot for Happy Death Day here:
Tree Gelbman is a blissfully self-centered collegian who wakes up on her birthday in the bed of a student named Carter. As the morning goes on, Tree gets the eerie feeling that she’s experienced the events of this day before. When a masked killer suddenly takes her life in a brutal attack, she once again magically wakes up in Carter’s dorm room unharmed. Now, the frightened young woman must relive the same day over and over until she figures out who murdered her.
Happy Death Day gets 5/10. This film is alright, but does have a number of flaws. There are a good amount of ridiculous scenes that don’t help the story much. This movie also has a hard time taking itself seriously. The main character is a bitch at first, and it makes it tough to feel sorry for her. There are many scenes that comes off as almost comedic, and others are just silly. It isn’t until the last 30 minutes or so that it finally gets good. There are a few cool reveals and an ending that was not that bad. Yet it really wasn’t scary at all, and tries too hard to be a horror version of Groundhog Day. So people may enjoy it, but it isn’t a film I would recommend seeing. If you want to learn more about Happy Death Day click on this website.
