Two years ago a game came out on the Nintendo Wii U called Hyrule Warriors. It was similar to the game dynamics of Dynasty Warriors and it was a game that no one was sure how it would do with fans. The game ended up being a huge hit with so much to do, the chance to play as so many amazing characters and plenty of modes and maps to unlock new characters, weapons and more. I wrote a review of it and you can find it here. Naturally a new game was made in this unique style called Hyrule Warriors:Legends but this time it was going to be on the Nintendo 3DS. I had a chance to play a demo of it at this years Wondercon and here is what I thought of it.

Hyrule Warriors: Legends has a similar plot with an evil Sorceress poisoning the land with a dark spell. It is up to Link and some of his friends to join forces to stop this threat before she finishes her master plan.In this new portable version players can experience new story elements and play as some of their favorite characters from Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker like Terra, the King of Hyrule, Skull Kid and more. There is another new feature where you can switch between different characters on the fly allows you to strategically place characters and defeat enemies in all new ways like never before. Try out Legend mode where you play in the basic story and follow the plot down to the final battles. Want something different then enter Adventure mode where your characters traverse an 8 bit map taking on new challenges to unlock weapons, characters and other upgrades. There is also a fairy upgrade feature where people can create them and as they progress through the game can obtain all kinds of things to make them stronger and give them new abilities. Yet the coolest thing is getting to play as the first ever female Link known in this game as Linkle. She sports two crossbows and is a force to be reckoned with.

The Hyrule Warriors: Legends demo was only for 10 minutes so I only had a little time to play the game, but in this time I liked what I saw. The graphics are not as good as the console version but not awful for a handheld either. I did get to play as Terra and she is definitely a great addition to this series. Her starter weapon may seem small but it packs a good punch on the hordes of bad guys. The area I played in was small but there were plenty of missions to complete before you could move on to the next level. It was nice to see some familiar faces like Link and Toon Link, and the character switching feature was pretty sweet. I only wish I had a chance to play it for longer, like the Wii U version there is a ton to do and the demo gave players only a small taste of the greater picture. It was kind of like dipping your toes in a lake and not actually swimming in it. Yet overall this game was pretty good and is not a game Zelda fans will want to  miss out on.

For those who liked Hyrule Warriors this is a game you will want to play. Fans of the newer Zelda games won’t want to pass up playing this one. It is the perfect game for fans of all ages with no extreme violence and tons of different modes to play and missions to complete. Hyrule Warriors: Legends is out to buy in stores now.
