Independence Day Resurgence is a sequel that waited far too long to be made.

Hollywood has gone sequel crazy lately. This can lead to awful films like Cars 2, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Anchorman 2 and recently X-Men Apocalypse. Yet if done right they can become great films like Neighbors 2, Iron Man 3, Captain America Civil War, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (the 2014 version) and The Dark Knight. Independence Day Resurgence is out now and here is where I think it falls in this spectrum.

You can read the plot for Independence Day Resurgence here:

As the Fourth of July nears, satellite engineer David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) investigates a 3,000-mile-wide mother ship that’s approaching Earth. Fortunately, 20 years earlier, nations across the world started to use recovered extraterrestrial technology to develop an immense defense program. When the alien invaders attack with unprecedented force, the U.S. president, teams of scientists and brave fighter pilots spring into action to save the planet from a seemingly invincible enemy.

I didn’t hate Independence Day Resurgence like I thought I would, but I didn’t love it either. It was nice to see so much of the original cast comes back for this sequel. They all do their best to make this film better than the last one, yet this proves to be an impossible task. The new cast puts their all into this second battle against the aliens and honestly I see no flaws in what they bring to the table. The special effects looked better than in Independence Day and the threat is definitely bigger with higher stakes than ever before. Yet Independence Day Resurgence has a ton of things wrong with it.

First of all Independence Day Resurgence has way too much unnecessary death. There is no reason for it other than to try adding sympathy and drama but instead it comes off as excessive. What really bothered me though was when someone tried to do something noble and it turns out their sacrifice was for nothing. Yet this wasn’t as bad as how when the alien ships had supposedly strong shields yet with enough blasts our ships cut through them like butter. The ending was okay yet it ends on a note that made little sense to me and I doubt fans will like it much. Overall Independence Day Resurgence is alright but I truly believe it would have been better had the director not waited so long to make it.You can learn more about Independence Day Resurgence on this website.

Independence Day Resurgence gets 5/10. It is not the worst sequel I have seen lately but I had hoped it would be better. There is too much happening here that is unbelievable and the film really does end on a ridiculous note. The characters try to make this a good film but sadly nothing they do helps it out much. Fans are sure to be disappointed with this sequel and should just skip seeing it altogether.

Those who like zany science fiction films should check this sequel out. People who are fans of these actors may get a kick out of their performances in Independence Day Resurgence. Yet anyone who wants to see a good sequel this is not the movie to pick. Independence Day Resurgence is out now. You can like Independence Day Resurgence on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
