Josh Wolf is one the funniest stand-up comedians working. A regular on Chelsea Handler’s Chelsea Lately, and After Lately he also often tours with Handler, Larry the Cable Guy and the comedians of Chelsea Lately. His new book, It Takes Balls: Dating Single Moms and other Confessions From An Unprepared Single Dad hits stands Tuesday and chronicles the period of his life when he was raising his three kids on his own, doing stand-up and working as a cater waiter for a Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles. The book is hysterical, and depicts the trials and tribulations of dating whilst driving a mini-van (not a babe magnet), get rich schemes (a peanut butter and jelly sandwich delivery company with his kids that gets shut down by health inspectors; they operate out of his one bedroom apartment) and other stories. The Good Men Project’s Savas Abadsidis spoke with Josh on the eve of the debut of his book.

What advice would you give to father’s who find themselves in similar circumstances to yours?
Two things: don’t ever try and do the pigtails in your daughter’s hair and find time for you. Kids come first but if you don’t find time to have a few beers and see a naked woman or two, you’re going to be miserable which will make you a bad parent.
Did you ever find that institutions and/or people were biased at you being a single guy in ways that they wouldn’t have been towards a woman?
My biggest pet peeve when I was single was that because I was a young man with kids, people just assumed I didn’t know what I was doing. Women used to approach me all of the time at the park and say things like, “Make sure your kids get liquids. They need liquids because it’s hot.” Really? So, what you’re saying is that kids, like other humans, need fluids to stay hydrated? So glad you were here or I don’t know what would have happened! Also, stores rarely had changing tables in Men’s bathrooms so I got chased out of more than a few Ladies bathrooms in my day.
What’s the best father’s day gift you ever got?
Blow job and a sandwich from my wife. Silence from my children.
Do you have any big projects in the works?
This book is my big project right now. After that, trying to figure out how to make a lot of money without working. I’ll let you know how that goes.
