Jim Carrey’s Wonderful Advice to Dreamers

This excerpt from Jim Carrey’s speech to graduates might be the best encouragement to follow your dreams you’ll ever hear.

Jim Carrey is most often thought of as a comedian for his over the top performances but with just a few words he has changed not only the way I look at him but also the way I want to look at my future.

“You can fail at what you don’t want. So you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.” – Jim Carrey

I like to think of myself as a cautious dreamer; wanting some grand adventure but being too scared to even take the first step. This has been especially true in the past few weeks as I look to my future and want to form what it will look like; this exercise has left me trembling at times and angry at others as I feel my mind begin to shut down as it hides from the worst case answers to that great question “What if?” I know I am not alone in considering taking the safe path, better the devil I know than the one I don’t.

I needed that video, I needed to hear those words of encouragement in a time of relative despair. I am always glad to find wisdom and I love to be surprised by its source. Much like the wise words from Ashton Kutcher that swept across the internet almost a year ago I was not expecting something this profound from Mr. Carrey. It might not be world changing for others but in a time of negative self reflection it was perfect for me, thank you Jim Carrey.
