‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ is a Deep Tale of Wild Masculinity

This film is also a portal into the future if we keep messing up the planet.

A portal into a potential future if we keep messing up the planet, Mad Max: Fury Road wins in nearly every category a critic can critique. Of exemplary note is its incredibly developed narrative and oftentimes actually insane action sequences. These would make it worthy of Best Picture alone (although it didn’t win), but changing it up by having as tough as nails female star certainly earned my vote for an Oscar or three.

It personally was an unexpectedly deep tale, when all I was looking for was a wild ride. The vivid color palette, soundscape forged in a boiling hot furnace and contextually appropriate characters immersed me from start to finish.

For us men it’s a good reminder of what healthy and unhealthy Wild Man masculinity is like, and that it’s not limited to men. It speaks to our primal urges and serves as a warning for us to collectively use our masculine drive to steer us towards a Utopian rather than Dystopian future.
