‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’ Is a Very Strange Science Fiction Movie

The Man Who Fell to Earth is a strange film that some fans will love

I am a big fan of David Bowie. His music was amazing and as an actor he played some great roles. I liked him in Labyrinth, and his cameo in Zoolander was hilarious. Yet I had never heard of The Man Who Fell to Earth before. I was curious about it though so I decided to check it out. Here is what I thought of this movie.

Thomas Jerome Newton (David Bowie) is an alien who has come to Earth in search of water to save his home planet. Aided by lawyer Oliver Farnsworth (Buck Henry), Thomas uses his knowledge of advanced technology to create profitable inventions. While developing a method to transport water, Thomas meets Mary-Lou (Candy Clark), a quiet hotel clerk, and begins to fall in love with her. Just as he is ready to leave Earth, Thomas is intercepted by the U.S. government, and his entire plan is threatened.

I thought The Man Who Fell to Earth was okay, but I didn’t love it. The soundtrack is kind of random with songs choices that don’t always help the scene they are in. There are also many moments where the plot slows down or goes on a tangent that makes this film hard to follow at times. There is also a ton of nudity, to an extent that this film might as well be soft core porn. I didn’t hate this mind you, just was kind of surprised by it. The ending was also pretty awful. It left me confused and wishing they could have found another way to end this film. Overall not a bad film, but it definitely won’t be for everyone.
