‘Married’ Is Marriage To The Extreme

If you’re looking for that feel good happy ending, this is not your show.

When you talk about classic TV marriages, you don’t think always think about the shiny, happy couples who always made everything work out just right like the Huxtables in The Cosby Show. You think about the couples that made you laugh because they were almost real. Those were the couples who stood out because they were just like you and I. They had money trouble, they fought, and they made mistakes. Couples like Edith and Archie Bunker (All in the Family), Al and Peggy Bundy (Married With Children), and even Lucy and Ricky (I Love Lucy) loved each other, made huge mistakes, but seemed to make it work despite the odds. Married on FX brings us a new couple, like these classic TV marriages, that will let us all know that marriage still isn’t perfect.

Lina and Russ are married with three kids. At first glance you’d think that these two are moments from divorce. Lina has given Russ the green light for an affair and she’s wondering what to do with her life now that she’s done having babies. Russ is the hapless husband with no idea how to help his wife through these changes while trying to have his own needs met. They are a couple that loves each other, but have become disconnected somewhere. They’ve lost a bit of their bond. However, they have so much in common that when they stop to assess, they understand each other better than anyone else ever could.

Sounds like a hilarious show, right? It really is! The cast is full of great actors like: Judy Green, Nat Faxon, Jenny Slate, Brett Gelman and Paul Reiser. If you don’t recognize these names, watch five minutes of the show. You’ll be saying “Oh hey! That’s that woman from that show!” These actors are on everything and the reason for that is because they are perfect for everything. They are the “Everyman actors.”

If you love to watch everything work out for the best, and everyone ends with a group hug at the end of every episode, then this isn’t the show for you. But if you’d like to sit down on a Thursday night with the one you love and poke fun at all of our silly idiosyncrasies after you’ve put the little ones to bed, this is the show for you. You won’t find the answer to life’s most burning questions, but you will find hope that we all have problems, but we all will survive.
