‘Marshall’ Takes viewers back to a dark time in history
There are a lot of movies coming out lately based on true events. Some of these films do a great job telling a tale of people who did extraordinary things. While other films try to tell a good story but for some reason end up falling flat. Marshall wants to tell a story about this influential person that I had never heard before. I was able to see this movie early and this is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for Marshall here:
Young Thurgood Marshall faces one of his greatest challenges while working as a lawyer for the NAACP. Marshall travels to conservative Connecticut when wealthy socialite Eleanor Strubing accuses black chauffeur Joseph Spell of sexual assault and attempted murder. He soon teams up with Sam Friedman, a local Jewish lawyer who’s never handled a criminal case. Together, the two men build a defense while contending with racist and anti-Semitic views from those who deem Spell to be guilty.
Marshall gets 7.5/10. Although this film told a different story than I expected it to, I really liked learning about it. It took me to a time when change was just beginning to come, and many people didn’t like that one bit. Josh Gad and Chadwick Boseman are a great team. They play off each other perfectly and each scene they are in is pure gold. As the narrative unfolds some secrets are revealed that change everything. Dan Stevens is a surprisingly good fit for Lorin Willis and James Cromwell does a splendid job playing the judge. The way their characters convey the time period is astounding and it is easy to dislike them. If you want to learn more about this amazing person then this is a film you will want to see.
