Based on a memoir of the same name, the film is a dramatized look into the life of Molly Bloom, who found herself in charge of high-stakes poker games involving A-list celebrities and was later the target of an FBI probe—all while she was in her 20s and 30s. Jessica Chastain plays the role of Bloom, and her performance has already gotten her nominated for a Golden Globe, even though the film was just released in select theaters and won’t get a wider viewing until Jan. 5. Sorkin—who also wrote the screenplay for Molly’s Game—is nominated for best screenplay (though not best director). Other big names starring in the movie include Idris Elba, Kevin Costner and Michael Cera. Rotten Tomatoes has assigned the flick an 80 percent critics score and an 88 percent audience score, and Social falls solidly between those two: Over the past three days, Molly’s Game has an 85 percent positive score on 30dB. –Alex Shultz
