‘Molly’s Game’ A film that tells an unusual true story.
There are a lot of films based on true stories coming out lately. Even more movies seem to be based on a book. When I originally heard about Molly’s Game, I was curious to check it out. The early buzz was good, and I was lucky to see it early.
A quick plot synopsis for Molly’s Game:
Based on the true story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey, who learned that there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led us to believe.
Molly’s Game gets 7/10. This was a good film, but it had a few flaws. The plot has a weak moment or two, and the ending was kind of anti-climatic. Kevin Costner was one of the best thing about this movie, his character was flawed at first but over time made an amazing transformation. Jessica Chastain was alright here, and Idris Elba does a good job—it just wasn’t their strongest roles to date. I am sure some people will like this film, but it definitely won’t be for everyone.
