My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 brings this huge clan together again after a family secret comes to their attention
Over the years it has become increasingly tougher for Ian (John Corbett) and Toula (Nia Vardalos) to juggle parenting and marriage. Their relationship has lost much of the spark it once had, and they also have to deal with their rebellious daughter Paris (Elena Kampouris) who constantly clashes with Greek traditions. Paris graduated high school recently and soon is heading off to college. Toula also has to deal with helping out her aging parents and the endless needs of her cousins and friends. When a shocking family secret is revealed the entire Portokalos clan join together to put on an even bigger wedding than before. What is this family secret? How will everyone handle it? Could this crisis have some positive implications for the rest of the family?
Comedies come out quite often each year, but few like this. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is full of jokes and humor that those who liked the first movie will find themselves laughing until it hurts. The cast work great together and the soundtrack is wonderful. It is clear that the cast were ecstatic to come together again and it is a movie many people will be running to the theater to see. Having said that this movie does have some issues. The humor will not make sense to everyone. This writer found himself not laughing much, and some of the characters are really peculiar. To some viewers this will be what makes the movie one of a kind. Sadly I do not agree. It appears like some of these characters were only put in for comic relief, and many times the jokes they deliver fall flat instead of being funny.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 gets 5.5/10. It is a movie that only those who enjoyed the last film will truly love. Other viewers may do best to miss this one. There is a type of comedy and humor here that only some people will truly relate to and find hilarious. This doesn’t mean it is a terrible movie, just not one that will be for everyone.
If you loved My Big Fat Greek Wedding, then this is the sequel you have been waiting for. For those who want to see a comedy with out of the ordinary humor then this is the movie to pick. But it is not a picture to watch with your kids nor is it something you should take the family to see. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 comes out this Friday.
