When things go badly with a new job in the worst possible way, this man refuses to stop until his loved ones are safe

This is an interesting new film coming out Wednesday. It has a lot of tough to watch images of a country run into chaos when the people are denied basic rights. It becomes a dangerous place right away and is in no way a great spot to visit. The film has some powerful messages and it surprised me in many ways. It is a thrilling new movie that men need to see right away.

Jack Dwyer (Owen Wilson) is a simple man with two lovely daughters and a wife who loves him. He has not had much luck with work in the USA even though he has an Engineering degree. But Jack gets the opportunity of a lifetime to work in Asia which means having his whole family travel thousands of miles to a foreign land. Jack thinks this is a great new start for the whole family but his wife Annie (Lake Bell) is not so sure. His daughters Lucy and Beezy find it odd in this new land but they are trying to make the best of it.

But that first morning something is going on, something very bad indeed. Jack runs out to buy a paper and the stores all shut down and the streets become full of some separatist group and the police force. There is a huge riot that is going on and immediately Jack is running back to the hotel to try to make sense of what is going on. He grabs his family and makes it very clear they have to leave the hotel right now. Annie is scared but trusts him and knows he will do anything to protect them. The rest of the film follows one simple goal, Jack has to get his family to the American Embassy so they can all get out of this war zone and to somewhere safer. Why are these people so angry? What is it that they want? And how are Americans to blame? And will Jack be able to find some way to get his family out of this terrible country?

The best thing going for this film is Jack Dwyer. He is such a great example of the modern father. When something happens that may be beyond his control, there is no time to whine or blame others. The only thing he can do is pick up the pieces and get his family to safety. He has to be tough and there is rarely moments to be kind or nurturing. No matter how crazy things may get he refuses to give up. When he hits a road block  Jack has to come up with another way to get out of danger. It was so refreshing to see a dad portrayed this way and Owen Wilson brings all the facets that make this character so wonderful. There is nothing he isn’t willing to do to make sure his kids and wife are protected even if it means risking his own life in the process. All men need to see this film because no matter if you have kids or not, you will learn some things on how to be a better man.

The special effects are astounding! From the violent moments to the rainy nights to the calm moments when the family first lands here it all comes together to make a special kind of movie. It is a very good thriller and there are a ton of scenes where viewers will not be sure what is going to happen next and a few moments when things look hopeless for this poor family. But it is also an uplifting movie because of how strong this familial bond is that they all refuse to stop trying no matter how tough things get. Jack and Annie are the perfect couple and fit a mold that everyone should have and so few people actually get to experience. To see what I mean you will have to see this movie for yourself.

The film has earned 9/10. It is a fast paced thrill ride from the first crazy moments right down to the unpredictable finale. The only bad thing about this movie is that there are a number of violent moments and a few adult situations. But other than that it is a very well done movie that must not be missed whether you are a fan of these actors or not.

If you enjoy a good thriller you need to see this movie. If you want to see a strong male character this is the movie you will want to pick. Young kids may want to miss this one, but everyone else should give it a chance. Go out and see it this Wednesday August 26th, you will not be disappointed.
