Pip wants to go to the moon in ‘Astromouse’
I have had the privilege of reading some great children’s books recently. Some of my favorites have involved some form of space travel. You never know what is going to happen next, but the journey is always a blast. When I heard of ‘Astromouse’ I hoped I would get to check it out. I was able to get a digital copy and here is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for ‘Astromouse’ here:
When Pip the mouse learns that the moon is made of stinky cheese, he has a big idea – he’s going to be an Astromouse! Pip makes himself a rocket out of an old funnel and some cardboard, and prepares for take-off. But blasting to the moon is harder than he thought and things don’t go quite to plan.
On his way home Pip sees a huge reflection of the moon in a pond. The moon has come to him! As he reaches down to break off a piece of stinky cheese, the eyes of a large frog appear and a frightened Pip runs all the way back home. He decides the moon is far to scary for a mouse, and he’d much rather live with his mom instead.
‘Astromouse’ was an interesting book. It didn’t go where I thought it would, but this wasn’t a bad thing. Pip has a big dream and a clever head on his shoulders, so he does make a good attempt to reach his destination. As the story moves forward, things take a few unexpected turns. This is a book I could see enjoying for his imagination and how he handles some of these situations. Not the best book I have read lately, but I did enjoy it.
‘Astromouse’ comes out tomorrow. You can pre-order this book on Amazon and at Barnes and Noble.
