The Purge Election Year expands on the previous films and delves deeper into this dark tradition

I am a fan of horror movies. Sadly most of them try to hard and rely way too much on special effects and aren’t that scary. The Purge series continues to somehow make films that are scary and fun to watch. I was able to see The Purge Election Year earlier this week and here is what I thought of it.

Read the plot for The Purge Election Year here:

As a young girl, Sen. Charlene Roan survived the annual night of lawlessness that took the lives of her family members. As a presidential candidate, Roan is determined to end the yearly tradition of blood lust once and for all. When her opponents hatch a deadly scheme, the senator finds herself trapped on the streets of Washington, D.C., just as the latest Purge gets underway. Now, it’s up to Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo), her head of security, to keep her alive during the next 12 hours of mayhem.

I really enjoyed watching The Purge Election Year. It is a great mix of violence, mayhem but it also has some wonderful characters. Each one is bonded by a hate for this ridiculous holiday that they all wish would somehow end once and for all. They may come from different walks of life but each one has their reasons for having disdain towards this annual event. It is a welcome change to see a horror movie that relies less on special effects and much more on characters and what is going on around them. You don’t necessarily have to see the other movies to understand and follow what is happening in this one. Overall a good horror movie that some will find scary and fans of the previous films will really like this one. You can learn more about The Purge Election Year on this website.

The Purge Election Year gets 7/10. It was not the best horror movie I have ever seen but it did surprise me. I was expecting just simple violence but there is more going on here than just that. It is a film all about change. It makes it clear from the beginning this is never easy to get but if you want it bad enough and are willing to fight for it, chances are you can achieve the impossible. It will not be a film for young children but teens and above will want to see this movie.

If you enjoyed the last The Purge films you won’t want to miss this one. People who want to see a clever horror movie should run out and see newest Purge film. The Purge Election year comes out this Friday. You can like The Purge Election Year on Facebook and follow the film on Twitter.
