Super Mario Odyssey, released for the Nintendo Switch last Friday, is getting near-universal critical acclaim, despite a slight delay. Nintendo exec Reggie Fils-Aimé explained that although the company had hoped that Odyssey would be released alongside the Switch, which was out in March, it decided to hold back to get the game right. “A delayed game is eventually good,” Fils-Aimé said, paraphrasing Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto. “A bad game is bad forever.” That delay may have been wise if Odyssey’s reviews are any indication. It’s got 97 out of 100 on Metacritic, and Social awards the latest vehicle for Nintendo’s mascot 88 percent positive buzz. Even so, there are a few areas where improvements could be made next time, according to Forbes writer Paul Tassi. The controls aren’t the smoothest ever, with motion controls impairing game play. The art direction was also a point of contention, and Social may agree on that one. “Unusual” appears as a sentiment in the analysis. –Hugo Guzman
