‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Better Than Its Predecessor

Captain America

Jay Snook thinks Marvel’s latest is an amazing thrill ride that everyone should see.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is an absolutely amazing film! Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the second install in the Captain America series is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 136 minutes.

I was hesitant when I first heard they were making this film. I wondered how could they do another Captain America and make it better than the first one, but I am here to say they did and it was so much better than the first film in every way.

This film leaves off shortly after The Avengers ends, with Steve Rogers trying to adjust to life but having a tough time. He is now an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and he is a very important asset to this organization. This time some kind of odd conspiracy is going on, which becomes even more apparent when Nick Fury is shot and killed. His last words to Captain America are “Trust No One” that is sent to him in a text. After this the film becomes full of action with Captain America becoming an outlaw and going on the run.

During this time, some new threat appears known only as the Winter Soldier, an assassin who is very strong and fast and has a metal arm. There are also old enemies who have returned stronger than ever, and it is from start to finish not only a thrill ride to find out who this new threat is, but to find out just what their plans are.

Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers/ Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson is back as Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson return as Natasha Romanoff/ Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/ Falcon, and Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce.

This is an amazing film. It not only has great special effects, but there is a lot of humor in it too. Rogers does a great job of bringing light to many situations, but as the same time has a lot of heart and a great sympathy for the country he has sworn to protect. He knows he isn’t an outlaw, and will do whatever it takes to protect the United States. The characters all have a role to play in this film, and it is full of many interesting surprises. People we have met before turn out to not be who they appear to be, and the plot is creative and very well written.

There were many times that I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next, and there is also a great cameo by Stan Lee as a security guard. Rogers has a lot to deal with in this film, and many demons from his past that he must now face. But with the help of Black Widow and Falcon he does accomplish the impossible. The ending scenes are wonderfully shot, and full of explosions and action that I have not seen in a film in a long time.

So far this film has made $159 million in the US alone. I suggest go see this film with your kids and family whether you are a fan of Captain America or not. You will be glad you did.
