The Good Men Project

Review of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’

Ultron 2 fix

Jay Snook reviews this much anticipated sequel

This the the sequel to the popular film The Avengers that came out in 2012 and was also directed by Joss Whedon, a man known for shows like Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. The film reunites Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye and the Hulk for another adventure. This is a must see film for Marvel fans of all ages.

The film begins with The Avengers infiltrating a Hydra base, one that has an important piece of tech in it that they don’t want falling into the wrong hands. During this mission they bump into two new super powered individuals, one with super speed and another who is able to do very powerful things to say the least. They both get away, but the prize is obtained and it seems like a celebration is in order. Before it begins, Tony Stark wants to try an experiment, one that is risky but could do a lot of good for the planet if it works. But it ends in failure, and so he forgets about it and tries to prepare for the party.

As it is dying down, a strange high pitch is heard by the Avengers, and a peculiar robot crawls out of the darkness. He says his name is Ultron, and it is apparent his intentions are not good. Tony has to take the blame for creating him, and although it is not readily clear what Ultron wants to do, you can be it will be bad for all of humanity. Where did Ultron come from? What are his nefarious plans? And will the Avengers be able to stop him in time?

The cast really gel together in this movie this time around. They are comfortable in their characters, and although it may seem people know everything about them, there is still much to learn. They all also get a chance to grow and evolve more in ways that audiences will not see coming, and there will be some painful moments for this group of superheroes in this new mission. There will also be some surprise cameos from characters in the universe that people will be glad to see again, and of course keep an eye out for Stan Lee. This is his best cameo yet and one that will be sure to make you laugh.

The special effects are wonderful, and really help bring each environment to life in a realistic way. These great effects also help bring the powers of these heroes in a colorful way, and really make them people you are dying to root for. It also does a real good job of bringing Ultron to life, because of the way he looks fans should enjoy the final result and will have little difficulty hating him. There are others things that make this a good film that will not be spoiled here, if you want to know what you will have to see this film.

The only real problem is the excitement and amazement is lacking in this sequel. None of the characters really felt new anymore, and even though the plot was clever and original it was missing the spark that made the first film such a must see. The villain was good, but was lacking a few key elements to make him the villain he could of been, and in the end was not as dangerous as the trailers made him look like. The plot also was a tad obvious and there was little that will keep longtime fans on the edge of their seats.

For these reasons the film gets 8.5/10. Don’t get me wrong, it is a great film and one that is sure to make a lot of money this summer, but it is not as good as it could have been. But there is enough good things that will keep audiences entertained and the plot moves along smoothly from start to action packed finish.

If you enjoyed the first Avengers movie, you will definitely want to see this one. If you are looking for a film full of explosions and fiery action, this is the movie for you. It does have some adult situations and a few violent moments, so it may not be a film kids should go see. But teens and above will like it, and overall fans will be glad with how it turns out.
