‘The Munsters’ is out now on Blu-Ray

I have watched a few episodes of The Munsters over the years. It was a show ahead of its time and each week we saw this family go on some wild adventures. When I heard Rob Zombie was making a film about these characters I hoped I might get to watch it. I was able to get a review copy of this movie and here is what I thought of it.

You can read the plot for The Munsters here:

Lily is just your typical 150-year-old, lovelorn vampire looking for the man of her nightmares . . . that is until she lays eyes on Herman, a seven-foot-tall, green experiment with a heart of gold. It’s love at first shock as these two ghouls fall fangs over feet in this crazy Transylvanian romance.

Unfortunately, it’s not all smooth sailing in the cemetery as Lily’s father The Count has other plans for his beloved daughter’s future, and they don’t involve her bumbling beau, Herman. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll howl at the moon as The Munsters make their way to Mockingbird Lane!

The Munsters gets 3/10. Rob Zombie tries to tell a love story here, but more times than not it falls flat. The film itself felt cheap and the plot goes in many odd directions. Jeff Daniel Philips was a bad choice to play Herman, and just doesn’t do this iconic character justice. The film ends on a weak note that doesn’t really do a good job bringing this story to a close.

The Munsters is available now on Blu-Ray. You can follow this film on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
