Creed 1 fix

The Rocky films were very popular. A total of six of them have been made and only one of them was bad. The story they tell each time is a simple one, that if you never give up and push yourself you can beat the odds and accomplish anything no matter how tough it may get or how unlikely it may seem. This holiday season something peculiar is happening, they are making a spin-off of this series. This time it will focus on the son of an old rival turned friend and how his struggle and dreams can become reality if only he wants it bad enough.

This time the film focuses on Apollo Creed’s son Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan). He is a simple man who wants nothing more than to be a prize fighter. He has his struggles and is told by everyone that he shouldn’t do it, he could die in the ring just like his dad did. Adonis decides to go to Philadelphia and runs into Rocky (Sylvester Stallone), the legend himself. He asks Rocky to train him so he can become the fighter he wants to be and be a champion. Will Adonis become a great fighter? Will Rocky agree to train him? And what lessons may Adonis learn along the way?

It is not a surprise this film is getting made with how crazy fans are for remakes and spin-offs lately. When this writer heard they were making Creed he was intrigued but not sure if this was a good idea. But after seeing this trailer the film looks pretty darn good. The cast looks stellar and the plot is clever. Although much has changed since we last saw Philadelphia it appears much has stayed the same too. Adonis and Rocky have some similarities and this is where the film plans on going. This writer is excited for this film and thinks it will be a beautiful picture that all sport fans should see.

The trailer gets 9/10. It does a really good job of showing off the film without giving too much away. There are some great surprises and it helps build the anticipation of this film in a strong way. Fans of Rocky will want to line up for this and it is sure to introduce a new generation of viewers to this universe. It is hard to say if it will do well this holiday season but it sure has potential.

If you like boxing this is a film you will want to watch when it comes out. If you are a fan of Michael B. Jordan you will regret it if you miss this movie. In a world of unnecessary spin-offs this movie looks like a welcome addition to a series that has brought a lot of joy to fans for many years.  Creed comes out November 25, 2015.
